I am trying to record a satellite Dish program and watch regular TV at the same time. Needless to say, it's not working (why I'm here). Can it be done? I'm also having trouble recording a regular TV program while trying to watch another channel. Can anyone help with this? Please! What I have? Yammaha Receiver; Sony DVD, Sony Wega TV, JVC VCR, RCA Satellite Dish. No cable TV, just an antenna coming in from outside.
Thanks!!!!!
Dave

I have close to the same setup. I have my RF antenna going directly to my VCR RF input. My RF output goes to my RF input on my TV. My satellite goes to the VCR RCA input, then your VCR output goes to video 1 on the back of your TV. That way you can switch from video 1\satellite and regular TV. On my Sony Wega all the way on the right are the audio outputs those I ran over to my receiver to VCR 1. That way if you want to listen to just your stereo you go to your on screen menu of your TV go to audio. Then go down to speaker turn it off, and just below there is an option for variable or fixed. Change that to fixed and you'll be rockin.Good Luck
David,Most people hook up their TV antenna to the DSS receiver, but I don’t like the way the system operates like this. Your dilemma is one of the reasons.
Try this:
Hook up the TV antenna lead directly to the VCR (RF/ antenna input). Send the RF/antenna output from the VCR to the TV’s RF/antenna input. Hopefully your RCA satellite has two sets of A/V outputs, like Sony’s does? (If not, this will not work.) Probably one set of A/V connections already goes to your Yamaha receiver. Send the other set of A/V outputs from the satellite receiver to the VCR’s A/V inputs. To record a broadcast TV show and watch another broadcast TV show: Tune the VCR to the correct channel, and record. On the TV, select desired channel for viewing. If you can send the TV’s audio outputs to the Yamaha receiver, you will have surround sound.
To record a broadcast TV show, and watch a satellite show: Tune the VCR to the correct channel, and record. Select DSS receiver on the Yamaha’s input to watch satellite show (TV set to line or aux input).
To record a satellite show and watch a broadcast TV show: Select line or aux input on the VCR, tune satellite to desired channel, record. On the TV, select desired TV channel for viewing. Again, if you can send the TV’s audio outputs to the Yamaha receiver, you will have surround sound.
