I was listening to Yello - One Second ... a very fast-paced CD ... in stereo mode on my Denon 2802 receiver ... out of curiosity I switched to DLPII Music Mode ... and it sound kind of crappy with the music all over the seven speakers (I use surround back speakers as well) ... and then I switched to DLPII Cinema Mode ... and all of a sudden the instruments moved to the front (as they were supposed to) ... but I could feel the ambience from the surround speakers ... and it all sounded very magical ... it was an awesome demo for DLPII. I was almost like I was there in the audience (not the feeling of being on stage ... which I hate).
I was just surprised that DLPII music mode sounded so bad (I did play with all the settings ... but it did not seem to come anywhere close to the cinema mode). This recording has a lot of ambience ... so I am thinking I just lucked out.
If you have this CD ... please report your findings here. Thanks.

Follow Ups:
I agree re DLII - it is great. However I find (on the Theta Data III -> Meridian 861) that any mode besides "Direct" destroys the sound stage and muddies up the music. I'll be interested to see if this improves once the Meridian 800 arrives and the 861 is upgraded (and that still seems yonks away yet).
And please note that I like surround sound, but not at the expense of mushy music.

Whether DPL or DPL II, the source material is a factor. Some recording simply have more phase and ambiance information in them for the software to process.
Max,My experience is just the opposite -- I find music mode to be less agressive, and movie mode more agressive.
I think (in both cases) it is miles (and miles) ahead of DPL.
