Hey,
Does anyone know the production years for the Sony kv-25xbr? I am thinking of buying one, but the only references to it are in the 1980s. Did they make them into the 90s?. I gather it was a great tv, and apparently this one is in nice condition, but I am worried about buying a geriatric television. Thanks
Follow Ups:
Mine was mauufactured in July 1986 when it first came out. It has never given me any problems what so ever. What it does have are brilliant colors and sharp picture, even to this date. Though the remote has quitted. Bear in mine, it does not have S-Video input. Peter
I bought mine in 1985. Still works beautifully, no repairs needed.
It was "top of the line" back then.My original remote also died. Most of its functions are now filled
by a very standard cheap (US$10) RCA universal remote. The only thing I miss is S-video, not present on this set. That was
introduced later. It does have a form of RGB input, however I don't
think it is compatible with present gear in that respect.I really like the multi-input switching, two composite inputs,
four "video" inputs, independent sound input-output - this set was
ahead of its time for simple home theatre.Elliott Moore
Thanks. I did buy it. The color and clarity are great, once I got things adjusted. But now on day three (of course), it started to tune out, where the picture gets broken up by gray areas and sometimes goes to no signal. This doesn't happen with DVDs or video, and seems connected with reception (I don't have cable). Do you find that your XBR's require a stronger signal than others, or is the receiver component on mine simply wearing out. I have an amplified Radio Shack antenna, which works for some channels, and a rooftop connection which works for others.
Sounds like the tuner in your XBR is out. One way to find out is to feed it with TV signal from the tuner section of a VCR. I have never found it require strong signals. Peter
