These succeed the RP-56, and are on the verge of shipping. You can already find listings at a number of places, though none have it in stock. They both have the Faroudja FLI-2200 DCDi line-doubler. The RP-82 has some other features (e.g. gamma correction, MPEG-2 noise filtering), Dolby Digital/DTS decoding, and DVD-Audio support.
The best news about these players is that even the RP-82 is currently selling at less than $230. At that price, you can afford to take the leap to progressive, now, and buy a more capable and refined player in another year or two.
The bad news about these players is that neither is a replacement for Panasonic's RP-91, which uses the arguably inferior Genesis line-doubler, though almost certainly has better analog performance and refinement.
Now it seems to be early June, was April a few months ago... Have you any recent news? Downside of RP-56/62/82 is they don't have coaxial outputs, so not much use as a music transport, if anybody here cares. But good for video. RP-62 doesn't seem to do much more than RP-56, but it DOES have some minor feature enhancements some people might use, is smaller, and CHEAPER. So far, in Canada, the RP-56 is still selling at essentially full list, dealers aren't acting like it's discontinued. In the last month a whole boatload of them showed up here, when for a few months they were kinda hard to find.
