You can purchase a used REF 20 pretty cheap. Is th 30 that much better? Also how would they compare to the the rest of the preamps out there? 1 - 10 Thanks

Stocky,One quick question...
Do you intend to attach a multi-channel SACD or DVD-A player to this unit?
If so, the Ref20 is right out.
Regards,
They are coming out with a reference 40 soon
Yes, which means the Ref30 people will have to wait for their promised upgrade to DPL-2, DTS-ES.Great way to treat the loyal customer base..... NOT.
Thank god I recently dumped my Ref 30 :-)
Regards,
Yeah, it's horse sh**. And now I hear the upgrade won't even have DTS-ES. Thanks B&K
I'm trolling to be honest; over at Hi-Rez Highway they hate Technics/Panasonic components--which is what I own (I also am a fan of dvd-audio...that really puts me way down their respectibility list!). I honestly don't work for them--I just like their straight-ahead, no-nonsense products.BUT, how many receivers/processors have all this in one package: Dolby Digital EX, DTS-ES and DPL II ?
Yep, that vacuum-cleaner-building company Panasonic. Matsushita, Pansonic/Technics parent company, is branding all their HT receivers with the Panasonic name.I know this isn't in the same league as B&K stuff, but it would make a good bedroom or who-cares-what-the-neighbors-think system.
Panasonic SA-HE200K receiver:

Nicholas,It's not that the Ref30 is a bad piece of hardware. B&K is slow, slow, slow to release any upgrades. To top that off, they are wholly uncommunicative with respect to their plans. It took > 1 year to put together a Ref20 --> Ref 30 upgrade package.
They may or may not release an upgrade for the Ref 30, they may or may not be working on a Ref 40 which would release, maybe before the Ref 30 upgrade.
The analog stage of the Ref 30 is lacking a bit in comparison to some other similar priced products like the Anthem AVM-20 and Classe` SSP-30.
In terms of what I'm replacing it with? For the moment, a receiver with preamp outs while I figure out which preamp/processor is the right one for me.
