How about the dvd-3800....? & DOES anyone own the dvd-9000..??? Please write a short review for either unit..& Also the Philips DVD 962....US availability...???
Besides the fact that the overseas unit is offered in the gold/champagne finish -- while the US gets, uh... black -- there seems to be a connection in the back of the Japanese model that is not present in the US version. It looks like one of them computer "doohickeys". Anyone know what this "other" connection is for? The address to Denon's US version ishttp://www.denon.com/catalog/photo.asp?s=home&p=DVD-9000&f=DVD9000_RE.jpg&c=4
and the Japanese site is below. The back of the player is 3/4 of the way down the page.
That look like an ethernet connection. How interesting.
Are you referring to the D connector? The Japanese version of an all-in-one component video connector, the D connector comprises four variants: D1 (480i), D2 (480i, 480p), D3 (480i, 480p, 1080i) and D4 (480i, 480p, 1080i, 720p). I hope I got it right.Alan Hsu
the Japanese model has component video output just like the US version (check the Japanese site). Why does the US always get shafted on the color?
I am big into components that aren't black. But you read the comments around here from some people, and they hate stuff that isn't black, think it looks cheap. IMO, go into a CC or BB etc., and it's pretty apparent what the color of stuff is that IS cheap, but that's changing quite rapidly now, and "silver" is back in vogue, after 25 years or so. Not that color is in any way indicative of quality, I'd just like the choice. [BTW, that's part of the reason I ordered the RP82 (below) instead of another RP56, my parents can have the black RP56 and they won't care.]
