Hi,I am contemplating satellite TV (small dish) in the San Francisco area (Palo Alto), but I don't know much about the systems. Is the picture DVD quality? Or is it digital cable quality.
I had digital cable a few years ago in San Francisco (AT & T I think) and it was unwatchable due to digital artifacts - skin tones, mist, etc.
What is the best quality dish - Direct TV? Are they as bad as digital cable or a bad DVD transfer?
Thanks,
Seanps. I have a Sony Trinitron 32" one year old, not WEGA

The choice depends on whether you are more bothered by cable noise or digital artifacts. It also depends on the quality of your service. Digital artifacts really annoy me, so I have cable. It is very good quality, but I am actually considering ditching it in favor of over the air broadcasts. I am annoyed by the relatively high cost of cable, and I only watch a tiny fraction of the channels, so why bother? I have plenty of worthwhile material to watch on DVD and laserdisc.Todd
not all receivers are built alikeI have da 2 RCA receivers... they were OK, not great
My mom bought a Mitsubishi receiver, image sucks.
I now have a Sony A55 receiver and the images are great!
Do your homework and look at reviews for each receiver before you buy one... www.consumerreviews.com is a good place to start.

Sattelite by all means. Besides the satellites are made right in your home town.
Cable sucks all the way around regardless. No Sat is not DVD quality. Every format is compressed be it DVD, Sat or cable. But Sat and cable are more compressed than DVD. DVD is best, satellite will run a second to DVD. But awesome even on a big screen.
