Check out the Denon 3802 on audioreview. I put one in the bedroom
with M&K speakers and couldn't be happier at this price point!

I too have an older Denon and love it. Also you might want to check out an Outlaw, sold only online at outlaw.com. From what I understand, these are great HT receivers for the money.

for the audio/videophile on a budget (in addition to Denon, which makes decent receivers)-Yamaha
-Marantz (though probably not in your budget)I haven't seen outlaw, myself, but they are generally well-received (no pun intended!).
