I live in NYC and currently get HDTV through DirecTV (I'm lucky enough to have the right southern view). I'm thinking of adding an over the air antenna. My questions are will I be able to get any signal (I'm on the 23rd floor on the upper east side), and is it worth it? I've heard that after 9/11 there's much less available (obviously not the worst thing in the world in context). I'm not sure it was easy to get before that anyway.Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you.

As far as I knew the HDTV broadcast antennae in NYC was on top of the WTC, so it's unlikey you'll get anything over the air unless they've managed to transfer the broadcast to another site.
check out this site: http://www.antennaweb.orgon the menu click "choose an antenna"
punch in your location and they will tell you who is broadcasting over the airwaves, what kind of antenna you'll need, and which direction to aim it.
i would imagine that the buildings will be a big problem, unless you can get something on the roof...
Thanks, that's very helpful. One question. Regarding the roof, do these work as lines of sight, or are they like the old T.V. antennas? It sounds like line of sight based on your roof comment...
yep, the digital broadcasts are Ultra High Frequency, which pretty much means "line of sight". hills and buildings are a problem. since you are probably very close to the transmitting antennas, you may be able to use an omni-directional antenna.i'd be interested if you would post your observations--
Check out http://www.fcc.gov/dtv/They have a list of stations by location. I'm not sure how easy they are to pick up, etc.
