Which device(cost no object) gets the absolute best image from DVD? Is it a stand-alone player? How about an HTPC(list configuration of machine if so). Does this player scale to a resolution above 480p to achieve these results?
Follow Ups:
EAD TheaterVision P - uses Silicon 503 chip - no chroma bug - and has some of the best audio output available. Unfortunately, not being made
anymore (but if you are lucky, they turn up ever so often on Audiogon.com in the $1200 range). You can spend "much more" on the Ayre
and Meridian (but why would you) and these babies are "da bomb"!!!!
It's still limited to 480p output though, right? Perhaps an HTPC that can do 540p or 1080i might still best it for absolute PQ?
Like the company below. I don't have any experience with them but it sounds interesting...

... we are getting excellent images out of our new Meridian V3 player. BUT I understand it still has the "chroma bug" although I'm blissfully ignorant of what it is and have not seen anything remiss so far. This machine is absolutely brilliant on good software but faithfully reproduces the crap on most DVDs (which vary from mediocre to good). However I'm as concerned about the audio quality as I am the video and again the Meridian shines.
Big downside is the cost as it needs the similarly expensive Meridian 861 for best audio results.
Kotches might be able to answer your question best but the above is my 2c worth.
