Hi: Im looking for a us$1.000 range DVD. Looking at reviews Iv seen many comments related with the "progressive scan" technology. Should I look for this tech. included on the dvd players Im looking for? I want (as everybody) good picture definition and good sound. I will use it for DVDs, basically concerts/shows and some movies, through a Dream Vision projector.
Whats "progressive scan" anyway ??
Any comments on DVD players...brands or models to look for?
Many thanks for all your help. Jose.

Sam: Thanks for your response. Y have a video projector that accepts component video. Is that what you ment? So progressive scan should work with this projector?
Thanks, Jose.
Yes, but only if your projector is able to decode progressive scan.... first came component, then later came component with progressive scan...I believe this is the historical order for this side of the pond (US)
1. RF (Coax)
2. Composite (single RCA connector for all video signal..typically yellow)
3. S-Video (one cable carries separate conductors for Luminance,Chrominance)
4. Component (separate cables for each)
5. Component with Progressive Scan (3:2 pulldown, etc..)Sam
If the DVD player does PS, the projector doesn´t have to, just make sure it accepts it...
1/Outstanding DVDi images
2/Multichannel SACD
3/$500 from Oade Bros
5/Will best any DVD Progressive Scan player at four times its price!Jack
Sony DVP-S9000ES progressive scan DVD, plus SACDPioneer DV-47A progressive scan DVD, plus multichannel SACD and DVD-Audio
Both should be available for around $1000

yes, progressive scan does offer a superior image... very noticeable, even over S-Video.... however, you must have a TV with the capabilities also... so, if your TV only accepts composite/S-Video, you will not take advantage of component with progressive scan....rather than trying to explain what progressive scan is, maybe this link could help...
