I've got a question about getting a HT processor. I've got 6 JBL speakers and a decent sub. I just bought a parasound 855 amp, and need a good surround processor. Eventually I want to upgrade the speakers, but for now need the proc. What is out there that is recommended? I would like to spend under 1 grand, and maybe even 500 if I could find one used. Thanks
Follow Ups:
I am also looking for a preamp/processor and I found the Klipsch Promedia DD5.1 for $170. The unit only has DD/DTS/ProLogic I.
The Sony TA-E9000ES is still available. Best all around processor for the $$ out there (that is if you only require 5.1 which is all you need-trust me). Also does not have analog pass thru for SACD or DVD-A but again, who cares! Can be found used at audiogon.com for $750 range and new for not much more these days (MSRP was $1700). Make sure it has firmware of 2.01 or 2.5 - makes a "huge" difference. There is also a tremendous forum for this processor (set up tips from it's UK guru DJay) which will make it sound like many thousand $$$ rivals.http://pub106.ezboard.com/faussiedvdandhtforumsonytae9000esinformationforum
The Outlaw is a good choice also but the forum support of the Sony is hard to beat. Really, you will get 90% of the performance of many of the top brands for less than a grand! Can't really go wrong. It's replacement is coming (E10) but has been delayed and will be $3000+
so I say go for it!
Sony's 9000ES is discontinued already. It just came out a little more then a year ago. Are you sure??? Anyone know why?KM

KM"Actually, it came out in 1999 but the Japanese companies as a group
are getting out of processors and concentrating on receivers.
Sony was to release a TA-10 processor, but it was scrapped.
I would recommend the outlaw 950, or the marantz AVR-9000. The marantz can be found as a demo for under 1K. Either would suit you fine. There isn't much cheaper out there that is updated, and sounds like it should.
