Flat screen plasma displays cost a fortune for a picture that isn't too great and I hear that the pixels burn out frequently. Where is this technology going? When is the next generation of flat screens due out and when is true HDTV resolution going to be the norm for plasma?
It's sort of a capitalistic limitation. Although it brought the technology to market faster than any other economic system, the profit margin is currently more than recuperating the R&D investment & inflating the price for these displays. Until demand starts deminishing for increasingly larger displays, density will take a back seat. Most purcasers comprise of the fairly affluent LCD projector owners who don't want to always dim the lights to view something. A true HDTV plasma screen will most likely show up in a 70" screen far before an economical 42". But reliability won't be far off, as the powerful aforementioned lot complains as stockholders.
