Apparently there is a new line of TVs being marketed under the Advent brand name. I saw them (20" and 27" flat screen) at BestBuy, and the logo matches the Advent audio logo. Does anyone know anything about them? I know the Advent name is owned by Recoton, along with Jensen, AR, NHT, Phase Linear, and others, and that the quality of their products has declined precipitously since their heyday. However, the name still holds a warm place in my heart because of the long love affair I had with a pair of old Advent Large loudspeakers during my college years in the 70's- those things launched a thousand trips ! ! The TVs appeared to be solid, and well designed aesthetically but I can't find any mention of them on Google or in this forum. I would be interested to know who they buy their electronics and tubes from. I am in the market for a 27" and would like to break out of the Sony box (just because).
Follow Ups:
Check their website at http://www.adventtv.com ,from what I understand, the parent company is based in Singapore (I checked the corporate info on the website) . The website is quite thorough on the TVs' qualities, and the technology they are using is quite current.
I felt the same. Was actually shopping for a smaller screen. Saw the 20" Advent at Best Buy and was hooked. It is a terrific picture. I too had a warm spot for the old Advent speakers. But, this doesn't need sentimentality to be a great buy.
For what it is worth...I just purchased the very TV you are talking about. I bought the 20" Flat Screen Advent unit due to the fact that the picture quality was actually BETTER than the Sony model displayed right next to it. The cost was much less and the picture and overall look of the TV is very appealing.I too would like to know who makes these TV's, as they are not listed in my Digital Cable Remote manual for setup codes. No matter, I think I got a great deal.
The TV's are made by Advent Audio, a subsidiary of Recoton.
