Do any HT (surround) receivers exist without the tuner? I am looking for the advanced sound qualities of surround receivers but also love music and will be using the receiver about 60:40, music:ht. I have looked at the Denon 4800, Rotel, etc. and all have built in tuners. Anything of good quality available without the built in receiver/tuner? Thanks...

If you listen to plenty of music I`d say you should buy the best integrated stereo amp designed to play music; I`m guessing that your reluctance to buy amplification with a tuner built in means you feel that having such circuitry might compromise ultimate sound quality? If you were to get yourself a Yamaha DSP-E800 DD/DTS Processor (no Tuner); this amplifies just the centre and two rear channels (connection for sub if you want), leaving your stereo amplification to whatever dedicated music amplification you wish.
I actually use a valve pre-amp and valve monoblocs for stereo - the processor is only in circuit during movies or DVD-A playback.
One of the benefits of this approach is that you can continue to upgrade your stereo amplification whilst still retaining your HT playback.
Price for the Yamaha was about £300 in the UK, discounted to £240 from a `stack `em high` outlet.
Receivers all seem to have tuners. That's why they're receivers. This was mostly true long before the days of HT.What advanced sound qualities are you referring to? I don't associate HT receivers with good sound quality, although some are better than others. If you mean DSP modes, they are also available on pre/pros. I don't know why anyone would want them, but they're available.
I already have a high end tuner, like the flexibilty and sound quality of separates much better, so it's processer/mulit-chanel amp for me fersher.
