Looking for a HDTV/FM antenna with the following issues:- would like to mount inside attic instead of on roof. Is there a problem with a static installation [ie no rotor]? My issues with rooftop installations are, they look horrible and could attract lightning.
- Would it help to have more than one antenna in the attic and merge the signals into one for stronger reception?
- specific brands/models would really help.
Follow Ups:
Distance from the broadcast antenna is the key. I live in the downtown area of San Antonio, and have messed around with various antenna configurations over the years. I have used an attic mount antenna, and was not satisfied. I finally settled on the next-to-biggest Radio Shack antenna, complete with rotor. Just ground it properly, and you should not have lighting problems. Be sure to surge suppress inside as well. If you have a nearby station, and experience problems with overload, RS sells an inline attenuator that you can use to "dial down" the signal. An added plus is that you can split off a signal for FM as well. In fact, on a clear night, I can often pull in a very listenable mono signal from Austin, TX, which is about 90+ miles from my house.
Depends greatly on where you are in relation to the stations. Distance and direction. I live in Orange county, CA and all the transmission towers are located about 50 miles away on basically one mountain to the northwest. In my case a Radio Shack UHF bowtie in the attic works fine.
