Hi all,This is the first time I venture into the VideoAsylum. I am in the process of moving into a smaller house. I am mainly an audiophile, but do enjoy watching good films on my modest hometheater system. My system is listed in the Inmates Systems section under FrankC. The sub that I currently have is an old Fosgate (2 1/2'Lx 2 1/2'Wx1 1/2' H). Quite a behemeth compare to subs made these days. I do not think it will fit into our new living room which is about 16'W x 30'Lx 8'H, so I would need to start shopping for a new smaller sub (new or used). My budget is $800. It does not have to be active as I have a mono amp that currently powers the Fosgate (Marantz 50). Any suggestion would be appreciated. The sub is only used in the hometheater settinig.
Follow Ups:
Depending on power & size preferences;REL Quake, Q150E
MJ Acoustics Pro 50, 100
M&K V75, V125All within your budget, mostly smaller (though the M&Ks arent) and very musical as a bonus.
I can recommend HSU... been using a powered model for over 5 years now with absolutely no problems.
You'd probably be happy only with a top-of-the-line model such as REL, which may be in your budget (or just slightly above it) used on Audiogon or eBay . . .
Thanks for the recommendation. I am not as picky in my hometheater system as my audio system. I cannot afford to support both. Most of my HT components are somewhat mix and match, good deals from stores. I bought my Fosgate sub 6-7 years ago from a store that was closing down. I have not been paying too much attention to subs, so I am not very familiar with what's out there, and what's good or bad. In actuality, I was fine with the Fosgate...except it's physically too big to fit into my new living room.
Other models receiving good reviews here & in the Home Theater Forum:-Dayton Titanic kit ($350 plus shipping), 10" woofer
-Adire Rava ($400 plus shipping), 12" woofer, might be too big for your application
-Hsu (between $500-750 depending upon amplification sources or passive)
-ACI Titan (probably above your $800 price point)
