while dropping-off a 13"tv at the dump i managed to bring home the lower half of a sony kp-46v15 rear projection tv.there is nothing of the mirror or upper part of the cabinet nor screen.
all the functions work and i have the lenses focused at max length and the whole thing tipped to project on the ceiling of the garage.
i already angled the outside guns to a point that i could use the convergence feature.
looks kinda funky projected onto stucco and even if i get the convergence good in the settings when i go to source the rgb are still quite separated.
hmmmm......does this mean that the focal length is somewhere inbetween the lens and ceiling and the separation of rgb i see at the ceiling would be greater even farther out ?
seeing as i have nothing into it wrt $$........... would it be worth the time and effort --for a hardcore tweaker :)-- to make a real projector from it ?
no component video but does have s-video.
i have a friend who is a hardcore astronomer that could help with the optics issues.
could i boost the lumens with superbright leds ?
Follow Ups:
The size of the lens. Then put 2 prism together in front of each lens and rotate one until it is pointed in the right position. If the image is upside down, get him to grind 6 180 deg prisms, then put in front of the projection lens and have one end of each prism face each other. This will invert the image.
Make sure he puts florite coating on lens as to minimize light loss.
lenses for the specific gun model ?or are 4"guns relegated to rp focal depth ?
as far as inverted picture goes........i was planning on building a suitable chassis for the whole thing and would just mount the projector accordingly.
to minimize the size i figured that there is a lot of stuff i could take out like the tuner and any audio related circuits.
and its not like im in a hurry or anything.
And those DIY astromers, don't they grind mirrors and lenses like nonstop? No time to observe, gotta finish this 30" mirror..
decide whether he wanted to make a telescope or a subwoofer ! lolololthe point of this post is that i do want to make it into a front projection unit.
the mirror was totally gone so i have to ask.....was it curved ?
Not unless you're a masochist.
to be taken ?half the fun for me is the tweaking/creating :)
the thought of a homebrew projector is just too tempting for me.
and im not expecting spectacular results either.
more of a learning experience.
Whoa, dude, you have WAY too much time on your hands!!!!!!!!!!
