The retail is suppose to be set at $1200. See the following link...http://www.dvdinsider.com/news/view.asp?ID=4127
It will use the 108 MHz DAC's for an improved progressive scan picture. It will blow away the performance of the DVP-9000ES!
Follow Ups:
Just pre-ordered my s999es from CrazyEddie.com....Got it for around $1029.It will compete nicely with the new Denon system, listed at 3500.
i suspect that the performance will be better than the 9000, but i seriously doubt it will blow-it-away.let's keep our feet firmly planted on the ground until somebody gets a chance to compare them!
14 Bit 108 MHz DAC's, Pixel-by-Pixel I/P Conversion, Multi-Channel SACD... Sounds to me like it blows away the 9000ES hands down!
yes, but what about the rest of the machine? one of the reasons why the 9000 is so good is due to the care and thought that was put into the power of the unit... i don't hear any mention of anything else but the 'capabilities' and not anything about the components used. from the looks of the unit, it looks as though it was designed by a completly different set of folks that designed the 9000. So, theoretically it SHOULD be a better unit... only time will tell
i just got back from the sony conference in vancouver,
and got to play with the new 999es, and picture quality wise, it blew
away the 9000es. it will play cdr's, cdrw's, mp3, vcd, svcd, dvd-rw,
dvd-r/rw, and sacd! i did not hear playback of conventional cd,
but based on the transport design, etc., it should sound better than
old 9000es. i have a waiting list started, so if you want to be added,
send me an email, and i will make it so. thanks...jim
Is it true that the 999ES weighs a skimpy 18lb vs. 33 lb for the 9000ES?
