My Toshiba CF36G55 TV has one set of audio/video inputs and one S-video input. The manual sez "When S-video cable is connected to the S-video IN jack, the Video plug should not be connected."Any clue why?
I'm adding a DVD player and using the S-video IN seems a no brainer, but I really don't want to have to be plugging and unplugging to switch sources....
Thanks,
Steve

it is quite common for many sets with limited inputs to have the S-video input override the (composite) video input. IOW, you can't use both video inputs with *active* signals...you could try using both inputs, but with only one piece of gear powered on at a time. There should be adequate isolation there that the "dead" device won't be any problem. But not a good thing if both devices get powered on, and thus their warning. A device in standby power mode shouldn't count as "turned on" at its video outputs, so maybe give it a try.I have an older TV with one set of S/comp inputs, and it lives with an S DVDP and a comp VCR connected simultaneously. The even older VCR doesn't have S out.
The less expensive Toshiba sets are made this way. I'm assuming your TV has component in (Video 2 on the Toshiba sets); if that's the case, use component cables from the DVD to Video 2 (better picture than S-Video too), and then use Video 1 (or S-Video) from a satellite receiver, or straight co-ax from regular cable or VCR into the TV.
