Pretty clean, I'm afraid, although it runs a bit high, so I tested with a variac set to exactly 120V. No difference.I'm beginning to believe that its a mechanical problem of some sort, as it performs flawlessly without the cover. The minute the cover goes back into place, it shuts down, so I'm guessing that a board is getting stressed a bit when the cover is in place, and is showing a flaw. Should be no end of fun trying to localize it.
Thanks very much for your response!

Does it still shut down, on the bench, with the cover on i.e. when it has very clear ventilation? Many DVDP's put out a LOT of heat, and some almost none at all...Can you use a hairdryer aimed at a board area to try to force the DVDP to shut down? Might narrow down the search if it's a heat thing. If you can do that, then cold spray on small parts of the problem area to find what part(s)/area is the problem i.e. when the hot part is made cold, the unit should run OK. RS has cold spray, it works well for thermal problems, when used properly. I use tons of it (another brand), lots of marginal things fail when they get a bit hot. I use a hot air device, not a hairdryer, same idea but with pinpointing.
Try reseating all connectors. Something may be expanding when it gets warm and connection becomes poor.
Yup, I thought about going for the heat gun, but I think I've got it working. On the main processor board there mus be some kind of fault. If I remove one of the four mounting screws, it seems to work fine, cover on or off.A close inspection of both sides of the board hasn't revealed anything, even under magnification. As you can imagine, it is a densely packed board with surface mount devices on both sides.
Anyway, the board is supported well---even at the corner with the screw removed. And, since I don't have the proper equipment to work on this type of PCB (I prefer pin-point super-heated air), I believe that I will just leave the screw out for the time being.
I'll tell you, though, it must be a hair-line fault, because the board looks perfect. At least I can play with my new DIO now!
Thanks,
