I have a Levinson 334 power amplifier that I use in a two channel audio system. I'd like to integrate this system into my surround sound system, but my preamp does not have a unity gain pass-through. The power amplifier has both XLR and RCA inputs, there is no selection switch for these inputs on the back of the amplifier. Is there any reason I can't simply connect the preamp outs on my AV reciever to the RCA inputs, and connect my two channel pre-amp to the XLR inputs? Doesn't seem that there would be any problem so long as I was not using the reciever and the preamp at the same time.

Probably no problem if you do what you say, making sure never two preamps driving the amp simultaneously. I can't do that on mine, as I must select which inputs are active (RCA/XLR).A safer way to make the connection is to connect the AV pre outs to a regular RCA input on your pre. And choose a reference volume pot level (what I do). Or to the tape jacks on your pre. Volume pot level doesn't matter for that (I have tape, so can't do it).
