Hi,
I want to use my electrostats for the main front L/R of a HT setup, but cannot afford to add electrostatic rear L/R and center. Those would be standard dynamic woofer type speakers. I would continue to use my stable, current dumping amp to drive the stats, and a separate multi-channel amp to drive the other 3.Has anyone tried this and if so, how does it work? I'm not looking for the last word in resolution, but rather if there are any impedance problems, etc. or... if there might be too noticeable a difference between the stats and the others - especially between the electrostats and the center channel (the electrostats are very fast).
Opinions appreciated.
Follow Ups:
proper dynamic drivers are just as "fast" as ES.
If you are using a centre channel you will have to be careful with the matching - trust me, been there, tried all of that. But I would not be too worried about the rears. I ran dynamic drivers there for years quite effectively although now I'm into DVD-A surround I have E/S at the back and side although it is probably overkill. I most certainly would not have bothered if it was only movies but music (which we have a lot of on LD, DVD & tape) is another ball park.
However there is no cheap way out of that centre channel. If funds were tight I would use a phantom centre until I could afford a matching unit(s). A first class sub, carefully placed (not easy) is more important IMO.
