In Reply to: Do we always need a Center Channel? posted by Eduardo on November 22, 1999 at 13:11:16:
I have a second small room, with a home theater setup, that
for quite awhile didn't have a center channel. Its stereo
performance was superb, so I figured since no more than 2
people at a time watched in that room anyway it would be alright. However I didn't realize that I tended to "hog"
the center of the futon, and the"other" person would always tend to be a little to far to the left speaker. One day I sat in the position was suprised at how much everything collasped to that left speaker. I realized that
the smaller the room the MORE you actually need a center channel because if you're off center you are actually closer to either the left or right speaker than in a larger room. I think in any room (especially a small room)
you should sit off center when setting up speakers and see
if the amount of "collaspe"is acceptable you if you're
considering not going with a center channel. Sitting "scrunched up" next to your wife/girl is fine, but its not
what I want to do with anyone else.
