I'm thinking of getting for my nephew. Thinking of VTF-2 coupled with either Gallo micro satellites or Paradign Atoms and a DVPNS-500V. Have heard the Gallo micros and sub and was very impressed by the openess but found bass lacking. Also wondering about a receiver and looking to come in under $1250 street for the whole system. I can get the DVP for $149 and the Gallo Micros or Atoms and VTF-2 for about $700 street if possible. Wondering about integration of sub with other speakers as I have no experience with a sub.
Ay input appreciated as I have little knowledge of the HT gear and it also, at least in this price range seems to change so quickly.
Follow Ups:
Will absolutely walk all over the Gallos. I've heard both (unpowered Gallo sub "ball") & I know. Gallos sounded very thin and overly airy. By comparison, the KHT 2005's are dynamic, full and the bass is quite taut & fairly deep.Probably set you back about a grand street, so may be a little out of budget, but your lucky nephew will be the envy of his -- dorm? apartment building? Country club?
I purchased my VTF-2's for about $400 last year. If you have a source that can get 2 of them plus quality satellites for $700, than that would be some news I could use.
Basically price really is limiting you. Get a decent DVD player and an Outlaw reciever. Look for Energy, Paradigm, Polk etc. speakers with what you have left over. A sub is an optional extra in my mind and can be added later once more money comes along.
