Anyone notice that Mike and Sully's hi-fi in Monsters Inc. is tubed? I saw the movie for the first time the other night. Just sharing...
Follow Ups:
I used to have a black & white TV circa 1964 (hand-me-down), Philco perhaps, that looked similar to the one on which they watch the Monsters Inc. ad . . .
In the context of the film, at first I thought that the "monster world" simply did not have solid state technology so tubes were the only choice. Yes, the movie does indeed have an early 60's industrial motif. However, near the end of the story, a WWW address is visible on the cover of Business Shriek magazine. That naturally implies a computerized/solid-state world.
Obviously it was more also more fun to render tubes. I remember seeing an accurate rendering of a tube someone created with the public domain raytracer "POV-Ray" a while ago.
The silly things we nuts think about...

Um... forget the tiny detail of the WWW address proving semiconductor technology. In the same scene with the amp is a friggin CD collection! Duh.
