Any recommendations or suggestions on replacement for my dying Toshiba 48 inch? Don't need anything too big--I've seen a new RCA 61 inch (though it would be a bit of a stretch, size-wire, it looks pretty nice. I'd especially like something this thin. I don't know much about the options, having dropped out of the video 'window shopping' and research into what's available since I picked up the Toshiba 5 years ago (but I certainly expected this RPTV to last longer than this! At least a couple years more while plasmas got better and cheaper.)
Open to any thoughts--input will be Motorola digital cable, LD, 2 tape decks, analog cable, dvd. Have self-powered floorstanding Sony prologic (alas!) with infrared surround (probably looking to upgrade that too...and so I don't use a receiver/HT amp rig.

I have no complaints with my Mitsubishi WS65809.Initialy, the picture quality left something to be desired compared to the demo unit we looked at...however as the unit burned in ,and all the components settled down, the picture became quite remarkable considering the price. Imo it's better than most of the tv's we looked at.For HD it's awesome as well as dvd component display.
You wont be dissapointed...again IMOTaz
I've evaluated most of the widescreen RPTV's out there, and this particular model really stood out-it was just sharper and clearer than the rest (Sony, Mitsubishi, Toshiba). In consumer reports latest reliability rankings for rear projection TV's, Hitachi was ranked #1. (I wouldn't use CU for subjective quality ratings, but I consider them a good source for frequency of repair statistics). Mitsubishi also makes a quality product, but they seem require more tweaking (ISF calibration) to look thier best.Surf over to avsforum.com for lots of useful information on all things video.
I've got a Toshiba which is not dying, but I've been watching DLP developments with an eye to upgrade. Samsung has one about to reach the market this winter. I like the form factor for 50" unit. Do a web search on DLP (Digital Light Processing). It may be of interest.
