Some time ago I posted that I was having trouble with JVC s-video VHS recorders and the problem appeared to be a batch of faulty ICs. Well it appears that was not the problem at all.The first service centre replaced the supposedly faulty IC but the recorder misbehaved the same as before when reinstalled. After annoyed calls to JVC in Sydney I took it to another service centre and they determined that the problem was RF interference between the recorder and the satellite digital decoders - the frequency of the RF output from the recorder was too close to that of some of the stations involved. This never crossed my mind because I was using s-video inputs and outputs with only occasional use of the RF input for free to air broadcasts.
MORALS:
* when you find a good service centre stick to it
* do not post about product unreliability until it has been absolutely confirmed
