I purchased some JVC S-VHS recorders earlier this year but have been informed that now JVC, the last company supplying them, have also stopped production. So, if you are keen on this medium then you had better snap up any remaining stock as there will be no more. The trend appears to be towards both hard drive and DVD recorders. It will be interesting to see what evolves, particularly re copyright. I see some unpleasant battles ahead with the option of time shift under threat.
Follow Ups:
I just spoke to a customer service rep at JVC in New Jersey. He said that 2003 model S-VHS ET VCRs have just been announced, so it seems that JVC is still committed to the format. I also believe Panasonic continues to make one S-VHS ET VCR. If you have better info than I do, please share it with us.
Has there been any standard set for recordable DVD. I thought each company currently had its own format (i.e., not playable in another company's unit).Would anyone really prefer S-VHS (aside from having a lot of S-VHS recordings alrady) when recordable DVD is on the rise?
They're more reliable and they're still being made.
An what do they cost roughly?
I have 3 JVS cheapys in the house and 2 went to the shop after a blackout, but they are not too bad for $150.
that sell industrial products...Beach Camera and B&H do, and there are many others also.
