I purchased the Denon 3300 only to have it overheat, smoke and die on me after only a week. Didn't care for the sound of the Yamaha 995. Any suggestions as to another receiver at the $1200.00 and under price point. Not interested in the Nakamichi 10. Any feed back on the New H/K, Marrantz, and Elite lines would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
You may want to audition the new Onkyo 777. It had some original qc issues when released in the US but onkyo quickly repaired/replaced any of the defective units. The only outstanding issue seems to be some center channel Hum, but it does not consistently appear, so may be related to how the unit is installed.
Good Luck.
I've heard the Pioneer Elite 29TX and it also is an extremely good unit, from what I saw when demoing it in my system it was very well built. It is the same as the 27tx, except that it adds a copper chassis, full gold plating on all inputs, and comes with the lcd remote.
I've just installed my Harman Kardon AVR 300 this weekend. It's too soon for me to say anything about eventual problems but for now it's seems fantastic. I was uncertain between Denon, NAD or Harman Kardon but the prices of the new models (AVR 300 or AVR 500) make me decide...
Get the VSX-27TX, has 120watts for all 5 channels. It will blow the Denon and Yamaha away! The Pioneer has a warmer, natural sound as opposed to Denon and Yamaha's bright thin sound.Has all the features of the Denon and Yamaha, plus THX Ultra Cert. Also, made in Japan (100%) not Korea or Malaysia like the Denon and Yamaha, respectively.
I've had mine for 1 month with no problems.
