Reading the pdf file for DTS96/24 http://www.dtsonline.com/9624.pdf
it stated that:*****
DTS 96/24 offers the following:
- Sound quality transparent to the original 96/24 master.
- Full backward compatibility with all existing decoders. (Existing
decoders will output a 48 kHz signal.)
- No new player required: DTS 96/24 can be carried on DVD-video, or in
the video zone of DVD-audio, accessible to all DVD players.
- 96/24 5.1-channel sound with full-quality full-motion video, for music
programs and motion picture soundtracks on DVD-video.
- 96/24 through the S/P-DIF output. DTS 96/24 allows the use of external,
very high quality D/A converters and associated analog electronics
chosen by the user.
***********Base on point number 2 & 3. I am reading that all current DVD player will be able to play DTS96/24 format DVD. Am I correct?
What about the decoder or HT receiver. Will I need to have something that support DTS95/24 or any current player can do?
you will need a DTS 24/96 5.1 compatible decoder inside the processor. If you don't have a compatible processor, then you will get regular DTS 5.1 at 48kHz. This is what they mean by "backwards compatibility".
What is the difference between : Dolby Pro Logic , and DPL II . Thanks in advance .
Also Dolby pro logic II is simulating 2 seperate channel for the back. While Dolby pro logic just simulate one.And I think the matrix that separate the stereo channel to do surround sound is much more convincing overall with DPLII.
Dolby Pro-Logic II now allows for the surround channels to be full range, instead of limiting them to 100 - 7kHz. The new version also applies "steering logic" to the surround channels in much the same way the three front channels are derived in the original Pro-Logic.Those who have heard Pro-Logic II say that it works better for music than the original Pro-Logic -- should you be interested in surround music.
In my opinion, Pro-Logic II will benefit laserdisc material the most -- at least in my case. It has the advantage of using uncompressed PCM to create a more enveloping (as opposed to Dolby Digital) and directional (as opposed to Pro-Logic) soundfield for movies.
