All,Hello all. I'm looking for a new reciever to replace my current 10 year old Onkyo system. I'm not really that serious about this stuff, I just want to get a decent reciever. Consumer reports rates the Panasonic SA-HE100 as their favorite. It needs to have optical for my dvd. A reputable brand, Customer Service, and something that will last forever are more important to me than having the absolute best sounding system. I'd keep my Onkyo system if it had Dolby Digital and DTS. Thanks for any help. Email rferoni@hotmail.com

I just purchased a used Marantz SR700 for $380. Fantastic unit: 100 watts x 5, great tuner, very nice, warm sound. I am very happy with the purchase. Using it with some Paradigm speakers.
If you want some of the newer features (e.g. Dolby Pro Logic II) that the Outlaw does not offer, I would suggest the Pioneer VSXD-811S. It has a street price below your $400 target, and although I wouldn't call it an audiophile receiver by any standards, it is, IMHO, a good value for the money. Full feature set and acceptable sound quality, IMHO.

I trust consumer reports for Cars and for Large Appliances...NOT for electronics and specially NOT for audio.
Where do you get the Outlaw for $400? It looks like $600 to me.drobo
