First is it even compatible with your monitor? SOme have RGB, some 15 computer type outputs, some component, and new ones DVI. Different models output some signals only through certain interfaces.Second, almost every one has bugs galore (See the avsforum)
Even the brand new Samsumgs (which look good spec wise) have serious issues.Third, the last generation are SLOW to tune, slow to change channels and run hot as hell.
I have the Panasonic TU-HDS20 (discontinued) and would not recommend it. Too slow, too hot, and video drops out even with strong signals.
Follow Ups:
If you're ready to buy one it's now the time. I now have a Samsung TS160 (off air and sattelite hdtv rcvr) connects to my Sony RPTV via DVI which provides a stunning picture in all aspects (whether it's 1080i or 480p). The Samsung box is extremely versatile and virtually bug free. BTW, I am using an inexpensive Terk antenna for local DTV reception and subscribing DirectTV for sattelite programming. Can't wait to watch Super Bowl on HD format.
