After 11 wonderful years, my Sony died. It left without warning the other day. Just went pfffffft.Even thought the set has always been protected by a high-quality surge protector, I think it's power supply-related. When an attempt is made to turn it on, it "sounds" like it's turning on, but all of the indicator lights (and the picture tube) stay dark.
Does anyone know if there are any user-servicable fuses inside the cabinet? Are there any other suggestions or diagnoses?
Thanks!
Michael

Hi thereThis sounds like a common problem with the early XBRs. One or two voltage regulators are prone to failure (twice with my XBR). Some people have reported that solder joints (at the regulator) go bad. There have been discussions on this in rec.video (try a search at dejanews.com) back in the mid '90s. You may need to get a service manual from Sony (about $20); but the set may be fixable for less than $25 in parts.
