you would need a sub, as do pretty much all HT. Without a sub, the deep bass would either be missing or you will get serious panel slap.Maggies need room to breathe, where they should be at least 3ft from the rear wall.
Follow Ups:
I love my maggies, they are great musical speakers. I tried using them for HT, but I blew the voice coils (it actualy melted a gap in the high frequency wire about 1/4"). I rebuilt both panels with new factory wire, and glue. I glued the heck out them, coat after coat, in anticipation of a higher output. It just didn't happen. They are what they are, the most unbelievably natural sounding speakers you may ever hear. They need a good musical sub, something with servo control and small/medium sized woofer. I had a hard time matching to 12" and 15" HT subs.
Did you bypass the fuse? I presume it did not have a QR ribbon.
I had a pair of the MG2B's, and I also rebuilt another set from the same series, for a customer. These are a two way model, with a thick voice coil for the mid/bass, and a thin voice coil for the top-end. The fuses seem to last longer than the thin wire for the voice coil. Actually, I baught them used, and I don't think all the fuses were the correct values as the originals. Regardless, obviously they break down over time as evidenced by corosion of the conductor in various sections of the length of the coil. I was impressed with how easily I was able to obtain the rebuild kit, which was enough wire and glue to do my pair, another pair, and more to go.
