I would stay clear of HTs in a box. While the Energy Take 5s, Def Techs, Klipschs, Bostons, etc. are good, better speakers can be had for the same price. For $1000 I'd consider 4 B&W 302s ($500), a B&W CC#3 center ($180), and an Energy 10" subwoofer ($450). The prices are all list, so expect about 10% off the B&Ws and around 30% off the Energy sub. You'll also want to get some 28" or 29" stands for the B&Ws. Decent stands will run you $150 for 4 of them.
If you can do without rears for awhile or up your budget, I'd consider a pair of Paradigm Mini Monitors ($340) for fronts, a CC-350 ($330) center and the same Energy sub ($450). Expect 20% off the Paradigms. You'll need stands for these as well. Later you can add another pair of Mini Monitors for rears. I actually prefer the B&Ws for music, but the Paradigms do a much better job on home theater. Good luck!
