Fungi are growing on the recorded surface of many DVD discs of mine in India. Very humid climate.Molds are seen on the recorded surface and they are becoming unplayable.
What to do ?

when you buy a new disc, make a copy right away, then seal the "real" disc and use the copy until it gets moldy (a few years I'll bet) then just repeat.This is not a crazy as it sounds...it will especially help with storage...you could use those 500 CD binders to store the copies, cutting your storage space to a fraction. You then keep the real discs in their cases in a box in a closet that has a de-humidifier running in it.
AFAIK there is nothing you can do once the mold is there short of replacing the disc. The mold must be prevented in the first place. This is a problem for folks who live in tropical climates unless they can keep their discs in an air conditioned environment.
Buy a big hard drive(s). I am noticing problems in my own discs. From repeated use in my 300 disc changer, I have noticed a couple that have been scratched beyond repair. So much for lasting longer than a VHS.
