Hi MichaelThe "home theatre disease" is all pervading and there are NO audio shops worth visiting here in Tasmania. We had a branch of ENCEL in the North of the state but it closed down and had the HTD anyway.
Sad, but all that is really left is Melbourne & Sydney + the internet, the place where I'm making most purchases & thus relying heavily on reviews and posts at Asylum etc.
I figure this is a world wide trend. Is it any better around N. Palmerston (Plinius factory excepted!!!)?

PS: Pioneer have sent me (gratis - how is that for service) the service manual of the CLD-D703 so I'm like the proverbial P.. in sh.. Will fax off an order today. I've located a competent techo to do the work for me. Thanks again for your help - I was given the wrong info before your assistance.
Glad to have been able to assist, sounds like you are getting good service from Pioneer, a rarity !Well Pliniustown used to have one really good hi-fi shop, Manawatu TV and Sound Service Limited. At it's peak in the mid-80's it was probably one of the leading shops in NZ.
A few years ago it got inundated with all manner of electrical goods such as computers, washers and other home appliances. Even it's sole listening room disappeared.
Recently they opened three new listening rooms and got rid of most of the non hi-fi stuff but HTD has taken firm hold. TV's, videos and those obnoxious video games abound.
About a year ago a new place opened, Image Audio, but from day one they were heavily HT based, with 2 listening rooms, one deducated to music only. Boring product though and staff who know zip about music and music gear.
Interestingly both these shops are Plinius dealers...
The rest of the country is no better. All stricken with HTD. And staff that know zilch.
