Hello my friends:During the last few years I have been building a very nice two channel set-up, and this year I plann to expand it to Home Theater; my first step will be a high-end tv, I like Sony kv36hs500 and I am about to buy it in the next few days, so I am asking you please your finnal comments, ideas, suggestions... as you know it is not cheap (around $ 1.700.00) so I'd like to have your opinions please... Sony, Panasonic or Toshiba? Sony is the highest price... does it worths it the difference in price? or would I be paying the extra-money just the name? thanks in advance for your insights, best regards, Antonio Machado.

I recently purchased the 36" kv36fv300. I am very happy with it, except for the price and the TV that it is I feel it should be a little better. So my suggestion is to have it professionally calibrated, or maybe a setup cd with a DVD player is enough. I think SOny is an excellent choice and wouldnt hesitate to buy it.

Are you certain that a 4:3 aspect ratio is the way you want to go? 16:9 (widescreen) is the trend. All HD material and most DVD movies are best viewed in 16:9. OTOH, there is more 4:3 content today. While that's likely to change, it will be a long, long time before most content is 16:9. Either choice is a mixed bag. It may depend mostly on how you plan to use the set.As for reliability, while there are bound to be a few bad Sony sets out there, I have friends that are very happy with their Sony Wegas.
I purchased that exact Flat Screen from www.mysony.com. They charged me 1600.00 delivered and setup but I had reward points that I used to lower the price. The unit is very nice and works beautiful with my Sony progressive scan DVD (composite video). I was looking at the XBR but thought it wasn't worth the extra money at this time. I really wanted the 42' Plasma but thought 7000.00 was too much right now. The set is about 250 lbs so you need two people to move it. I bought the TechCraft (swivel base) stand for it.
Hoped I answered your questions.
I don't really have anything to say directly about your product, but yesterday I purchased a much lower end sony, kv20fs100. I am more of an audio guy and on a budget. I am responding to your query because I couldn't be happier with mine. The clarity, colors and over all picture quality are far better than I had ever imagined I could have at my price range. I had originally decided on a different brand, because everyone told me you pay at least 10% more for the sony name. Maybe thats true, but in my price range there simply wasn't any comparison after actually viewing the sony and other brands. When and if I decide to upgrade my tv I will feel very comfortable with sony if that is what I choose. Take that for whatever it's worth.
hi
I just bought a sony 51 inch rear projection TV. it lasted 1 month. Thank god I bought it from sears! I had the maintenance agreement and I told them I did not want this TV! the color went bad. it changed from blue to green to red overtones and it flickered from light to dark every 5 seconds or so. I decided to go with a hitachi 51 inch rear projection. I have not found any complaints and the salesman I have spoken to think its one of the best out there. I also had a sony reciever and centerchannel that went bad, within the past year. they were only 2 years old. I wont buy SONY again. I also heard a rumor that hitachi has been commisioned to make SONY RPTV next year.(since they obviously cant do it right)
