I am thinking of getting a Marantz SR-18 receiver for my HT set up. Listened to it rather quickly at the hi-fi shop the other day for five minutes as I was rushing. Went back for a second audition but was told the model was sold and that I need to pre-order one.
So without the benefit of a good audition, I wonder if anyone can give me some advice. Are there users of the SR-18 out there? How do they perform on music/HT (I listen to music 70% of the time) What are the positive or negative aspects of the receiver. I intend to use them to drive my Acoustic Energy 120 speakers. Good match? I hear the SR-18 had manufacturing problems in the past. Also some claim they are too bright sounding. I also understand that Marantz has introduced a SR-18KS edition with an improved amp design. I don't have further info to verify this. Anyone knows the details and can enlighten me. Should I wait and get the special edition SR-18KS model instead?
Any good advice will be appreciated. Thanks!
