Need recommendations for most capable (performance and build) DVD player, please. Maximum budget is $500. Thanks!
Follow Ups:
Brand new DVD player from Philips has excellent video quality with Sage-Faroudja chipset, no chroma bug, progressive scan and 13 bit video DACS, plus SACD, upsamples CDs if you want it etc. Also can convert PAL to NTSC if you're into foreign DVDs (I am). Many more features some useful, some not. Not built like a Camelot, but pretty solid and substantial, especially compared to budget players. The first shipment sold out, new shipments expected in February or March. Available at J&D Music, Tweeter, Good Guys etc. Street prices as low as $400.
IMO, the Panasonic RP-91 is tops in this price range.
Don't care if it's the best but I'm certainly enjoying mine ($399)

This is a great article, but some of the newest players arrived too late to make it into this shoot-out.
