Hi everyone! I just set up my HDTV system yesterday, and I am really amazed by the overall quality of HD in earnest. Amazingly, I didn't think I could get any signals at all, but I get just about everyone but Fox (not a big deal).I have a Channel Master 4228 8 bay bow antenna pointed eastward to Mt. Wilson. I also have a Winegard AP8725 preamp installed. I live in Oxnard, CA, and am located about 60-70 miles from the Mt. Wilson broadcast towers.
Now to my situation. KCBS-DT seems to have audio breakup at times. I don't suspect it's a reception problem, as the audio signal strength is basically the same as every other station. I get signal readings of 12 bars, or roughly 50% on the Samsung STB.
Interestingly enough, I think I can eliminate audio breakup by just going through the settings and switching the Audio Bitstream mode from AC3 to PCM. Once I do that, there is no more audio stuttering on KCBS until I change the channel and come back to KCBS later.
Again, ABC, NBC, KTLA, and KCAL never have audio problems. If any of you can shed some light on the situation, I'd sure appreciate it.
Follow Ups:
1. How mature is the station? It could be start up / learning curve issues for the broadcaster. My local NBC affiliate had all kinds of problems when they first came up. It took a few months to figure out how to do HD, and they're great now.2. Have you contacted the station? If you do, mention what kind of HD tuner you are using. Some broadcasters have trouble operating with Samsung tuners.
