I am trying to build a 2nd HT 5.1 system for ~$2500 in a room ~19x18x9 with open end to kitchen area. My 2ch is a Maggie (Magnepan) 1.6 based system.A full Maggie setup was what I had in mine but its cost is prohibitive... plus quality electronics to push them... and a sub that's fast enough to keep up... I figured around $4500 is what I need... (center + sub + receiver). That extra $2000 could get me a nicer amp in my 2ch :)
HT/Music ratio on 2nd system will probably be 90/10; mainly DVD viewing with no more than 4 sources; WAF is not an issue :)
**** Shopping List ****
Receiver:Rotel RSX-1055 ($1299)
Outlaw 1050 ($534 shipped)Speakers (Front/Center/Rear/Sub):
B&W: DM600 S3 ($300) / LCR60 S3 ($350) / DM600 S3 ($300) / ASW300 ($350) = $1407 w/tax
DM303 ($?) / LCR3 ($?) / DM303 ($?) / ASW300 ($350)Ascend Acoustics: All CBM-170 + Hsu VTF2 ($1255 shipped)
Onix Rockets: RS150 ($1099) or RS250 ($1299) HT package + S/H

I have audited the Rotel + B&W and like it. For a "few" more bucks, the 602 would be my pick. Also tried Onkyo Receiver (DTS 6.2) on Paradigm and Energy C5, but did not like the sound. Could just be the store...
Read so much good comments about Ascend!! The Onix finish looks the best on picture.
Read somewhere that a used Lexicon (DC1?!) may do wonders too...
Choices, Choices, since I am not experienced in HT eval, I am puzzled... Please help.
Thanks in advance.
Follow Ups:
I would vote for the Outlaw and Onix combo, but then I've always been more interested in saving money than spending it. I'm not familiar with the Ascend speakers, but you would definitely get my vote for the HSU VTF2.
The Rotel is much more up to date on processing options than the Outlaw. Also, I heard somewhere that Rotel and B&W voice many of their products to work with each other.I can't say much about the speakers, as I'm not familiar with them, but I would consider a paradigm package as well:
2 pair of Titan bookshelf speakers @ $219/pr
1 CC-270 Center Channel ~$200 (?)
A PDR-12 Subwoofer @ $419You will have enough room left over for stands for the Titans and some cabling.
I might consider the NAD 751 receiver and spendor speaker combo that subaruguru recommends on audiogon. I'd probably combine that with one of the titanic sub kits from part express.I think you can get the receiver for like $500 or so off of audiogon. the spendors ran him like $2050, if I remember right. Can't think if the model #s. It's supposed to be a pretty musical combo for HT.
