Why a combo, other than to save space??? It's the worst of both worlds. The VCR is bound to break down/need repair before the DVD section does, but when you take the unit in for repair you will have no source at all! Cheap DVD player/bad VCR player in one box? No thank you.VHS is a dodo. Get an inexpensive decent DVD player (like one of the Panasonics) and a cheap VCR.

... I guess it depends on how fussy you want to be re audio & video quality and if space is a premium. Personally I would never buy one.
