Nominally true, except in this instance the dvd signal will pass first through a non-copy protected vcr which will strip the Macrovision from the signal. So it will work, I've tested it. My question stands, can the dvd player simultaneously output from both svideo and composite?

I would have thought your Reagan-era VCR would just ignore the macrovision encoding, not also strip it. But it's your deck, I dunno. Some DVD players don't seem to want to output component outputs at the same time as the composite/svideo outputs. My mom's old one was like that. I Don't think her new toshiba is like that. The old one you had to go into the setup and enable or disable component. I don't think most players are like that. I believe most players have output on ALL the video outs (component, svideo, composite) simultaneously. But they might get disabled if you turn on progressive scan (deinterlacer).
Strip was a bad usage, I guess. Ignore is right -- if ignore means that I can see a perfectly fine image on my tape. All I know is it's a lot cheaper than spending a hundred bucks for a Sima Color Correcter. I will see whether the player does as you suggest. (though I have to buy an adapter first to use my composite video cable with the svideo out on the dvd.) Thanks
