I would have thought your Reagan-era VCR would just ignore the macrovision encoding, not also strip it. But it's your deck, I dunno.Some DVD players don't seem to want to output component outputs at the same time as the composite/svideo outputs. My mom's old one was like that. I Don't think her new toshiba is like that. The old one you had to go into the setup and enable or disable component. I don't think most players are like that. I believe most players have output on ALL the video outs (component, svideo, composite) simultaneously. But they might get disabled if you turn on progressive scan (deinterlacer).

Strip was a bad usage, I guess. Ignore is right -- if ignore means that I can see a perfectly fine image on my tape. All I know is it's a lot cheaper than spending a hundred bucks for a Sima Color Correcter. I will see whether the player does as you suggest. (though I have to buy an adapter first to use my composite video cable with the svideo out on the dvd.) Thanks
