AV Sciences is a terrific website for home theater stuff.

Thanks. However it is designs for the actual stand alone building I am looking for at this stage. Any more ideas please?
If your are in the planning stage, it may be worth the money to contact Dennis Erskine at designcinema.com (call the Atlanta office).
He is a frequent poster at the home theatre builder forum on avsoforum.com. They can help with the design of the room, acoustic treatments, floor plan and layout, et al.
Several posters at avs have used their services with great results. The investment in hiring someone in the planning phase can save you big bucks and a lot headaches on the back end.
Best of luck on your new project,
Rodney
Wow! This guy MUST be good to get two independent referals. Not sure if he would be too keen on my project....I'm in Melbourne Australia!
I would call Dennis and ask if he's interested. He's doing my theater/listening room via email, phone, digital pics and video tape. We're roughly 12 driving hours apart, so it is unlikely he'll ever see my actual room. The only part that might get expensive would be the phone calls. Might still be worth a shot.
So what exactly is he "doing"? Design of the building or just layout of the internals and soundproofing etc? I guess if it can be done remote it doesn't matter how far away he is.
In my case he is doing the DIY package, which includes framing design, electrical, lighting and automation, equipment placement, HVAC, lighting, specifying the type and placement of acoustical treatments etc. This means I expect to be able to read his plans and complete the job myself with most everything already specified. In my case it is in my unfinished basement. Unless you've done this sort of thing before and know exactly what you're doing, you may find (as I did) that there are just so many questions you want to answer before you get too far along, that it will take an enormous amount of time to answer them all. While I enjoy the journey as much as the destination, I didn't want the journey to last forever! It really would be best to talk to Dennis directly as I have not yet received my design and can't comment on it's value. I can tell you I contacted a number of people he has done work for and all were very pleased with what they got for what they paid. He was willing to spend quite a bit of time on the phone with me (probably 1.5 hours) well before I committed to spending the first dime. If you check out the website and then call him, I'm sure you'll be able to determine if his services will be in alignment with your needs.
Thanks for the help.
