I own the Denon 3802 which does not support the Surround EX format. Most DVD players have Dolby Digital and DTS processors built-in. Do any DVD players have the Surround EX built-in? Will they in the future? If so, could I even use the DVD player's Surround EX processor with my receiver? Contemplating what DVD player to purchase.

--------------------------------------------------------------------Does this unit decode Dolby Digital 6.1 or not?
--------------------------------------------------------------------Yes it does. The manual is a bit confusing but refer to pg. 21-the top of 22, and pgs. 52-53. The easiest way seems to set the auto flag detect to "off" in the setup (DVD flagging is unreliable) and use the 6.1/7.1 button on the unit when playing a DTS or DD 6.1 DVD.
Thanks, I'll try it out tonight.
Yes, it does. It's not documented but the 3802 does indeed decode DD-EX. It even does DTS-ES using its "Widescreen" DSP mode.Give it a go with a DD-EX source. Make sure you're in Matrix and you should get the EX surround. Good luck.
