I just bought a new amp with Pro-Logic II (as well as digital 6:1). Well, in my humble opinion, Pro-Logic II is as useless as the original version. I think all analog souces, such a TV, music, and most videotapes, sound better with two or four stereo speakers (i.e. stereo setting with B speaker outputs driving "rear" set of speakers.I used a speaker switching box in my old set-up, so as to allow switching to the rear surround outputs for the second set of speakers when I wanted to try watching a video in analog surround sound. Problem was that is was so complicated even I would forget the settings sometimes, let alone explaining it to the wife.
Is there a way to use the "second set/rear" speakers for both B-speaker outputs and rear surround outputs on an interchangeable basis, w/o using the switching box and its requisite complications? I have to think this issue has come up w/others in the past.

I can't help wondering if there is a setup problem with your system. Have you used a RS sound pressure meter to set all the levels? If you are finding that Pro-logic doesn't cut it, can you run your system in straight stereo? Some preamp/processors allow for 5 speaker stereo, is there such a setting on your unit?
No, I don't have a five-speaker stereo setting on my amp (I'd be happy with a four-speaker stereo setting!). Keep in mind, I'm very pleased with my system's performance with digital 5:1 sources; it's just the Pro-Logic I'm unhappy with. For example, I use my system to watch regular TV. Some channels sound pretty good with the Pro-Logic, others sound bad. The "bad" channels sound better when I switch to stereo mode..my guess is that in cases where the Pro-Logic in not compatable with the signal, all of the sound comes from the center channnel which, in my case, can't compete with the overall range and sound quality of the two mains (Klipsch KG4's)Do you listen to standard music CD's in Pro-Logic? If you use the stereo setting, wouldn't you like to use your "rear surround" speakers for music listening as well? Anyway, I guess I should've purchased an amp with the setting you asked about. At least I still have the speaker switching box on hand. Thanks.
