Hi,i am having the following problem with my Sony PC1e camera:
After a short time (10-15 min) the camera during recording, playing or stand-by suddenly switches off without displaying an error-code. If it is switched on again, it works for a couple of minutes and switches off again, aso. The working periods are getting shorter and shorter. The problem turns up when using the accu or the ac-adapter.
With the ac-adapter the camera even has more problems: Sometimes it is not able any more to pull in a newly inserted cassette. It simply switches off during the pull in.
I have brought the camera to the local Sony-support. They told me, that the board VC-210 (number A7073710A) has to be exchanged. Since the repair would have been very expensive (> 500 Euro) and I am thinking that probably it is not necessary to exchange the whole board, I took the camera back unrepaired.
Does anybody knows this problem and knows a way to repair it ? I really do not want to throw away the camera.
Follow Ups:
Hi, I also have a troubled PC1E. It has a Video Head problem
and I was quoted £300 for the repair.
In all honesty, its not worth to be repaired for that much.
But maybe the two of us can cook up something, since I dont want to throw it away either.
What do you think?

I have the same camera and it makes me a lot of drop-outs in sound, timecode and also in picture. It was getting worst and worst so I had to put it in service and I was quoted 300 euros for the video head. Now I am thinking, if its not possible to get the head cheaper from other sources. What do you think?

Hi Bolly, you are right, its not worth to be repaired for that much. Do you have an idea how we can solve our PC1E problems ? I can send the PC1E's service manual in pdf-format to you.
When i turn my cam into recorder mode it switches off within a couple of seconds. When i remove the tape it stays on. Is this you think any related to your problems???greetings,
Leon
Hi Mike,Yes please, i would like to see that manual. Where did you find it?
My email address is bogusaccount576@ntlworld.com, please take out the numerals from it.
Did you manage to find out how much the part itself would cost without the workmanship? Since the machine my machine is broken anyway, i would not mind trying to fix it myself with the spare part.
What can happen?
